Introduction to the Douglas Flood Relief Scheme (Including Togher Culvert)
The Office of Public Works (OPW) in partnership with both Cork City and Cork County Councils have recognised the high levels of existing flood risk in the River Lee Catchment and have carried out a Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Study for the Lee Catchment which includes the Tramore River Catchment. The Draft Catchment Flood Risk Management Plan, which was published in February 2010, recommended flood relief measures for the Togher area. However, the Douglas area was badly affected by flooding in June 2012. Cork County Council, acting as Agents for the OPW has commissioned Arup to carry out the design of the recommended scheme in Togher and to develop a Flood Relief Scheme for Douglas. Due to the Cork City boundary change, Cork City Council is now the Client for the scheme.
This website has been set up to provide information to members of the public and to keep you informed of the project's progress.
The Scheme consists of:
- Upgrading the existing culverts on the Tramore River between Lehenaghmore Industrial Estate and Greenwood Estate in Togher
- Flood alleviation measures along the Tramore River/Ballybrack stream as necessary to provide the required standard of protection to properties in the study area
