Douglas Construction Update - March 2020

Progress relating to the scheme can be summarised as follows:

All flood defence works are complete in St. Patrick Mills including road surface reinstatement and line marking in the car park.

The new public realm works, including public plaza and benching, in Douglas Community Park have commenced.

The Ballybrack stream has been rediverted back to its original alignment in the Community Park, Ballybrack Woods and Upstream of Donnybrook Commercial Centre. This was undertaken under the supervision of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) following the completion of a stone clad flood defence wall, river bed scour protection, over 140m of gabion baskets and rock armour lining the river bank. Additionally construction of two trash screens in Ballybrack and upstream of the Donnybrook Commercial Centre have been completed.

Works are underway around Church Road and the ICA Hall and a new provisional entrance walkway has been installed for facility users.

The remaining works to be completed include:

•    Flood Defence works in Lower Ravensdale
•    Installation of Church Road Culvert
•    Completion of Community Park and Church Road public realm works
•    Tree planting in Community Park and along Church Road plaza
•    Reinstatement of private lands
•    Reinstatement of Church Road surface

McGinty & O’Shea, Arup, the Office of Public Works, Cork City & County Councils again wish to express their thanks to the people and businesses of Douglas for their patience and continued support throughout the scheme.
