Scheme Introduction
The Office of Public Works (OPW), in partnership with Cork County Council, have recognised the high levels of existing flood risk in the River Lee Catchment. The OPW have carried out a Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Study for the Lee Catchment, which includes the Owenacurra and Dungourney River catchments, as well as tidal flood risk. Cork County Council has recognised that groundwater and pluvial flooding are also very significant sources of flood risk in Midleton. A robust flood scheme for the town needs to address these flood sources.
The scheme is to be developed to defend properties at risk from all four sources of flooding, i.e. tidal, fluvial, pluvial and groundwater flooding. The Draft Catchment Flood Risk Management Plan identified a preferred option for the alleviation of flood risk in the Midleton catchment. Cork County Council, acting as Agents for the OPW, has commissioned Arup to develop a Flood Relief Scheme for Midleton.
This website has been set up to provide information to members of the public and to keep you informed of the project's progress.
