Invasive Alien Plant Species

June 2021

Cork County Council has recently appointed All About Trees Ltd to carry out survey and treatment works for Invasive Alien Plant Species on lands along the Owenacurra and Dungourney Rivers.  This year, in addition to treatment of Japanese Knotweed (and other species) in August/September, a treatment programme for Himalayan Balsam will commence in June.

The ongoing treatment of Japanese Knotweed is having positive effects in terms of limiting regrowth, thereby reducing the risk of blockages in water courses.  The additional treatment of Himalayan Balsam will also have positive effects.

Please do not strim or cut Japanese Knotweed if you encounter it.
