Invasive Plant Species Survey & Treatment 2022-2023

April 2022

Cork County Council has recently appointed Japanese Knotweed Ireland to carry out survey and treatment works for Invasive Alien Plant Species on lands along the Owenacurra and Dungourney Rivers, as well as in Ballinacurra and Water Rock. The survey will include water bodies within the Scheme Boundary (in red below).

This two-year contract will include removal of Himalayan Balsam in June, and treatment of Japanese Knotweed (and other species) in August/September.  In advance of these works, surveyors from Japanese Knotweed Ireland may require access to your lands.  We would appreciate your cooperation in this regard.  2022 will be the 6th year of treatment of Japanese Knotweed in the area, and the ongoing treatment of Japanese Knotweed is having positive effects in terms of limiting regrowth, thereby reducing the risk of blockages in water courses. The additional treatment of Himalayan Balsam will also have positive effects.

Please do not strim or cut Japanese Knotweed if you encounter it.
