This scheme is part of the €1bn National Fund announced by the Government as part of Project Ireland 2040 for flood relief schemes throughout the Country in May 2018. The OPW is providing the funding to Kilkenny County Council as the Client to deliver the Graiguenamanagh-Tinnahinch Flood Relief Scheme. 

You can see the programme for the project on the Timeframe page of the website.  With complex scheme like this the timeline is a best estimate at the time of writing. The timeline will be updated as the scheme progress.

The scheme will improve the standard of flood protection for Graiguenamanagh and Tinnahinch to 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (1 in 100-year return period event)

No, this will be a key consideration in scheme design. We will analysis the impacts of defence measures on the Barrow Catchment as a whole. This ensures flood risk will not be increased upstream or downstream of the scheme area.
