September 2021 - Togher Main Works Progress Update

The works on the Togher Culvert Construction Contract commenced in June 2021. The works have been divided in to a number of zones to minimise disruption and traffic restrictions to the residents and businesses in the vicinity. Initially the culvert and trash screen construction will proceed in stages followed by full reinstatement and the public realm enhancement works.

The first zone of culvert works involved a full road closure located between Togher Community Centre and Togher Boys Catholic National School. This was completed on the 27th of August 2021 and the road was opened to a single lane of traffic.

Works are now progressing south on Togher Road outside the Church and will continue towards the roundabout. During this time a single lane of traffic will be maintained at all times via a Stop/Go system, along with access to O'Connell Court, The Church of the Way of the Cross and Robinscourt.

The Public Realm Enhancement works will commence in early 2022 following the installation of the culvert. These works include hard and soft landscaping which involves the replanting of felled trees next to the new trash screen in Southern Fruits Industrial Estate and in the green in front of Brook Avenue. Hedges, trees and low shrubs will be planted at Togher Roundabout and along pavement verges on Togher Road. Bus stops and signs that have been removed will be reinstated along with any walls and railings that were removed for the purpose of the works.
