Appropriate Assessment for Ground Investigation Works
The flood embankments that make up the Shannon Town & Environs flood defences are made up of embankments that are under two separate ownerships/control
and as such there were two separate statutory approval processes and AA for the proposed GI works in accordance with relevant legislation;
Rineanna Embankment Scheme – Office of Public Works (OPW) has maintenance responsibilities of said embankment and therefore the OPW is the public authority,
and sought consultation from National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)., on the likely significant impacts on the Lower Shannon SAC and SPA.
The works will be carried out under the Arterial Drainage Act 1945.

2. Shannon Airport
Embankment Scheme – Shannon Airport Authority has ownership of said embankment and therefore Clare County Council is the competent authority under the
Planning and Development Act 2000 as amended and conducted the AA on the planning application.
